No, Allwaters, I won't be in the derby, I meant that Friday morning I was going with a member of this site to show him and his crew some of my honey holes in the north and to try to give them a helping hand as to handling a boat in the tides and catching some chum on their first attempt at this derby.

Three years ago that particular spoon was catching a lot of April and May chinooks for me along the Shelter point side of Discovery passage at 150 to 180 feet. The interesting thing was the chinooks we were catching were spitting up small shiner sea perch and since then I have had very little luck on it. Searunner you may be on to a local food source that the chinook in your area are exploiting.

been fishing the same gear since august. Refer to above post. And lately i have been really lucky off the fingers and the inside reef between the fingers and neck point. I watch people troll by all the time. It seems though that nobody is willing to work the structures and thats what has really has been consistent.

Heating up. The fish are starting to show as they usually do this time of year. 100 - 165ft on the rigger is the zone.

Are the fish 1or 2 miles off in the 600-800ft range like last may or right in on the structure?

Ive heard of fish over at finger, thrasher, as well as other parts of gabriola. Also a large showing of fish 1 - 3 miles offshore like usual. Some reports have been downright phenomenal. Get out there before its too late!!!

Fairly slow out there today ... Could have something to do with the 16' tide change and the giant ball in the sky last night, Tide was ripping all day. Got a late start.... Helped a few guys launch at the ridiculously low tide at noon.. we managed one 10 lb spring a mile off thrasher and our limit of lings including this 25lber my buddy caught. Spring was caught at 140ft on a copcar.

Jed im pretty sure the commercials are out there right now. The prawning should be starting to dwindle now that they have been at it for a week. I would just put my traps away till they're done. Sure you can still catch some but its hardly worth it.
