If you could only choose one lure/bait to catch coho with what would it be?

Charlie White's ''The Lure''

Just kidding ... I like to use small plug-like lures... A small 3 - 4'' Tomic plug slays them...like the orange 3'' tomic 755 (Im not kidding) smile

I bet coyotes would work very well. I havent used them to target coho though... Ive caught a lot of coho on the old standby green/white hootchie, 3' leader.

I like anchovy in a chrome teaser head, or a tight spin cut plug herring fished off the rigger.

Chovy

PS - Gopher, I looked up the tomic 755... orange with black dots! are you for real! drool

Gopher thats quite the coho killer you got there...grin

The most productive lure that Ive used for coho is a stingsilda, perkins or gibbs minnow...drift jigging!!! Triple headers not uncommon back in the day. This method of fishing only works if you can locate the schools of coho basically by locating the bait. Trolling is far more productive if the fish arent concentrated in a specific area.

Interesting plug! My favorite coho setup is 3 inch white apex behind a coho special flasher.

For Coho feeding in the kelp beds, nothing compares to casting a BUZZBOMB - silver or white varieties.

I have seen 5 or more coho chase my lure to the boat, snapping like crocodiles for my buzzbomb.

90% of hits happened within 5 seconds of lure hitting the water = awesome!

I used the Coyote ''PartyGirl'' 4'' trolled fairly fast with no flasher but about 10 feet behind the lead weight last year with pretty good success.

(The weights were actually old halibut lure weights...shaped like a submarine sort of...they go through the water nice and smooth at speed. Don't know where I'll ever get another pair if I lose them. They weigh about 8oz.)

I prefer fishing Coho with a 7 wt flyrod on the beach or in the river. Save my gas money for my fall hunting trip :)
