I will be going to Nootka July 31st through the 5th looking for the Conuma run interior fishery with hopes of hitting the hi-way a couple times weather permitting.

I plan on camping at either Tuta or Cougar Creek.

Is anyone else going there at this time? Love to team up with someone especially when heading out front. I have a 21' Trophy, so the buddy system might be best out there. Would love to see Bajo Reef

Just came back from Nootka(my old stomping grounds)...I sure missed you!!!....Never have I seen the fishing SOOOO Good!!! in all the years(25-26)up there.....Tied up @ the Light House on Sat. and Sun......fished Off Shore both days....WOW!!! weather was AMAZING! thank you GOD!!!..... that was much needed R@R.... C@R at the Light...25-30 + lbs Springs.... no other boat there...LOVE IT!!!!..... Coho were insain..... Bajo was OK but found most fish to be on the inside of reef....went through 3 packs of anchovies in one day on 1 rod with second rod hitting just as many fish with Green and White ''turd''......... F^CK I NEEDED THAT!!!!..........:O)......

..P.S.... Hope the fellow that had the issue (DSC)at San Carlos on Monday A.M. was OK....hate to hear of sh#t like that.....

Just got back from 7 days at Cougar Creek and what a great time!

I have never seen the volume of salmon like this before. What a treat.

My 12 year old nephew landed his first salmon. 20 lb spring that he will never forget.
My new sister in law also landed her first ever at 22 lbs. It was truly like a ''quickening''.
My brother and I caught our first ever halibut. 5 halibuts on in 90 minutes. We even had a double header but my cheap Gibbs lightweight leader snapped but we
Managed to land 25 and 45 lb beasts. The harpooning was fun!

We were surprised by a few Nootka details despite all my research:

The road to Cougar Creek is very rough. I was glad I took spare wheel and sets of bearings. Luckily we made it. Boats 21' and up need a good trailer and there are 3 large hills to contend with.

There is no phones, no shower unless you are a resort guest. Cougar Creek is super packed. People camp in the parking lot for 5 days waiting for a campsite.

Moorage for boats is rafting style, so get used to walking across other boats and moving up to 3 of them to get yours out. Moorage and tenting was CHEAP! $13 a night Thank God!

Make sure you bring lots of supplies. Including potable wSter as there is only creek water. We used creek for cooking and washing. I am not generally afraid of wilderness water.

When I go fishing I always leave a trip plan with the Wife and send messages or phone to check in. In Nootka this is almost impossible. That can make those at home uneasy. The nearest phone is Gold River and cell phones in Campbell River.

Shopping in GR is bad also. No produce to speak of and meats are poor. Good thing the sea provides!

Biggest Disappointment: Everyone with campers and RVs runs crappy little generators all the time. Even at night. Here were are in wilderness magic and these asses are running generators right next to your tent. Ridiculous! I would like to see 11:00 OFF
The fishing was incredible and all the tips and research over the past mOnths really paid off

Thanks everyone who helped me out these many months!

Just got back from Nootka. Fishing was over the top ! Played at least a dozen Chinook every morning. San Carlos was the spot we fished and they all were in the 20's. Hate to say it but this wasn't a fishing trip this was a catching trip..The hwy was so thick with Coho about 4 to 6 lbs. we decided not to go out there anymore because it was too hard to get past them and the inside was on fire. The Boyz and I had a great time and met new friends on this trip. This will go down on one of our most memorable trips to Tahsis..
