I have just joined this site. I moved to North Saanich 2 years ago from Sechelt where I worked for nearly 30 years. I work half time in the Nass Valley. I spend much of my leisure time fishing--freshwater and saltwater, with all legal gear with a preference towards flyfishing.

Hi Cory looks like a great site. I live in Prince George, love to hunt and fish! Have very limited salt water experience, stumbled on your site looking for tips. Hopefully will be able to help others in the future with things I'm more experienced with.

Hey Everyone,

I joined last year but just began posting recently. I live in Courtenay, have fished all my life but got away from salmon fishing for a few years as I was building a house. My wife and I went out to Nootka Sound fishing out from Gold River a few weeks ago and limited out on springs. We are headed back in tomorrow for a day trip with some friends to show them around. We were fortunate to run into some veteran fisherman out there that told us exactly how to fish which helped us limit out. If anyone wants their pointers let me know, some of you guys probably already know.It was interesting listening over the VHF to all the code words that people use for when the bite is on in different areas around the sound, quite comical.

Tightlines! Don

Hi Everyone,

I am not all that new to this site. I've done some exploring here and have learnt a great deal of knowledge which has helped alot during my fishing trips. I didn't really pick up fishing until I moved to nanaimo from calgary about four years ago. Since then I've had the opportunity to fish for bass, trout, salmon, and steelhead. I'm still waiting on catching that first steelhead, I'm hoping this will be the year. I'm also hoping to catch my first coho beach fishing this year as well. Overall, I'd have to say that trout fishing the cowichan this year has been the funnest experience so far. It's such a great help to beginner anglers like myself to have such great resources, like this website. Thank you to everyone for your contributions.

All the best,

Tight Lines

Hello guys and gals.
I've been salt and fresh water fishing here in Victoria since 1970. Just recently sold my 18' Lund because she was getting too old and I worried too much about her safely returning to land so....
I am looking into purchasing another in the new year and while I was 'surfing' for one,I came upon this site. I'm not much of a poster type...for now...but if I can lend my 2 cents into aid I'll do so.
Thanks for having me and I look forward to some good reading.
cheers,Herb.

Streamer, nice to have you aboard! Your best bet for your first steelhead is the stamp and the summer runs will be going crazy for eggs in the upper river right now. November is prime time for them. Use a single orange trout bead.

tara_13, glad to have some more albertans join the site.

slayer58, glad to have you here. Dont be afraid to post and lend your 2cents. Thats what helps keep the site going.

Hello,

My name is Dave, just joined this site a week ago or so. Great site. Many folks on here with a wealth of knowledge and creativity in regards to fishing. I grew up in Duncan, BC and got hooked on fishing when my brother and I were each given a fishing rod by my grandfather who fished the Fraser for years (Boston Bar, etc.). My father took us fishing out of Maple Bay to jig for cod in Sansum Narrows and around Saltspring Island. Caught some big lingcod as a kid off the log booms in the bay right across from Maple Bay on Saltspring (entrance to Sansum Narrows). Moved up to Comox Valley as an adult and have fished many places around Campbell River and many places between CR and Port Hardy. Also some fishing on WCVI and the mainland Inlets (Bute, Knight, etc.). Still the strangest fishing I have ever done is carp fishing with my brother-in-law, in a ditch essentially (very small creek running through my father-in-laws farm) in southern Ontario. Crazy how a fish that big (25 lbers or bigger) lives in a body of water so small and dirty. . And Wonderbread as bait!!. I love fishing and see it as a continual learning process. This past summer my son (4.5 years old) caught his first salmon (a pink) off of Cape Lazo. But cried when I bonked it, he wanted to keep it alive and put it in the fish tank at home. . Anyways, sorry for the long post. Great site, look forward to continually learning from folks on here.

Just signed up a week or so ago. My husband and I have been together for 28 years and go fishing and camping as much as we can, usually in the Interior area of BC and usually for trout. A couple of years ago we started going salmon fishing. Have gone to Port Alberni a couple of times and then up to Kitimat for the last 2 years. This year we are heading up to Bella Coola, Bella Bella, Ocean Falls area and are eager to venture into new territory. Hoping we have the same great results as we have had from the other places. Have looked over the forums and there is a wealth of information from people.
Even though it is winter out and bloody cold today, I am getting the fishing itch and can't wait to get back out there.
Tight lines to everyone.
