Ive heard from a pretty reliable source that the fishing has gone from spotty to good in the past week. The fishing near Hoiss Pt has been on fire at times. Some of the larger fish are starting to show. Lots of boat traffic in the popular spots and has been a gong show some days to say the least apparently.

Cory - Have some fishin buds came back yesterday. They said last three days were really good. their biggest was 25lbs. I guess weather has been an issue before that. They had to fish inside with the crowd. Next week dragonballs and myself will be up there for nine days or so. The tides look good and hopfully the weather.I'm sure Dragonballs will have plenty of video to show of the trip so I'll let him tell all. Bauerboyz2

I guess no members are fishing nootka?
Nothing much new to report as far as I've heard...The highway is pretty consistant and is likely where you want to be considering the size restrictions in place now.
Have a great trip Bauerboyz2

Got back from Critter Cove last night... fished for 4 days around the cove... Camel Rocks, Hishnit... and made 2 runs out to the highway. Had to work pretty hard for fish but managed 9 northern coho from 9.5 to 17 pounds. Released 3 in the 15- 18 pound range because they weren't clipped. Yesterday morning there was an indication that fish were moving in to Critter Cove area... we had quick action around day break before heading home. Also many boats fishing Moutcha Bay and was told that the bay was loaded but not many were being caught. Have fished the sound for 5 years now and was amazed how early the northerns were coming in... and, also amazed that we didn't bag one spring! Generally, from what I saw, fishing was very spotty in the area, and I have a real concern for the lack of springs at this time of the year. By the way, a nice catch of bottom fish offshore... snappers and lings. Finally, I've got to question DFO's regulations in the area... one boat had to release 20 northerns because adipose weren't clipped, and this wasn't an isolated case. As careful as we were, I'm sure atleast 2 of our releases would not have survived. Even a limit of 1 coho/day would save fish!

Thanks for the report nahmint! Too bad about the springs but the large coho probably made up for it. I bet a lot of members on this board will agree with what you said about the coho regs, myself included.

Hope u got a big boat. weather outside rough ! make sure to wear life jacket and VHF in top working order! That said, outside find the 300ft. mark and fish at 120ft. Armytruck hootchy w/40in. leader behind a crome, green hotspot flasher. best by far. If weather is bad fish Hois pt. and fish it all day, the bite turns on for about 20 min. and turns off for an hour or so. Fish the point tight and to the west. 3.5 in. coyote spoon green and crome w/6ft. leader same flasher. Good luck

Thanks for the heads up ! We are used to fishing outside in the rough got hammered a few times 10 miles off Bamfield this spring.
We would like to get out to try for Halibut as well but if it's to rough we'll hide inside or go surfing
