I took my dog for a walk along the stamp and spotted 2 nice steelies in a tailout and about a dozen coho in a back eddy that I like to fish. A few dark springs milling around in the various pools too. It might be worth while for anyone interested.
accidentally posted under saltwater please move.

I fished the Stamp all day today... launched at the gun club and floated to Somass park. We caught nothing! I saw a guy catch a dark spring, and another guy claimed he got a coho at the somass confluence today. I am going to be fishing the river all next week, so I keep you guys updated. I think the river needs more water.

fished all day today, caught nodda!! played two fish, lost them both. the best spot to fish is just up from the confluence of the somass and the stamp... lots of people fishing the bank, 20 in one spot, we even saw other pontoon boats on the river, which is unusual. the guide boats had nothing as well. pretty slow!

Its hard to believe it can be that slow... are fish stacked in the runs and just not biting or are they just not there?

Well... there isn't any fish in the system at this point. If there were fish in the river, then somebody would be catching them. Yesterday was the 3rd day of floating the river for me in the last week, and each day we see less coho jumping. There must be more fish holding in the inlet and not coming in the river, or else the coho returns are going to be horrible. I heard a large run came through last week in the rains. But there are a few runs in the Stamp, so there must be another run holding in the mouth waiting for the rain. Or perhaps this is it. That would be bad.

With the reports Im reading about the port alberni inlet, there should be some nice coho entering the system soon.
I have never been able to find shore access for the confluence pool. Is it possible to walk in or do you need a boat?

I fished the last couple of days, and the coho have arrived! It's nice to see hundreds of coho making there way up the river, what a relief! The best place to fish is up from the confluence about 400m on the sand bar. You can't miss it theres about 30 people fishing that run. I saw more than 20 fish caught in 3 hours. I hooked four. This weekend will be the peak I think, and then its going to taper off. I heard they are going to lower the lake 2 feet to accomodate the runs, over the weekend. Yes you can get into the confluence by foot, but I would go up river to the next walk in point to get to the sand bar I was talking about.

We fished the trailer on Saturday morning with no success. 1 small spring was caught all morning. The guide boats had a little more action up at the top of the island, we saw 6 fish on the beach.

I went out yesterday for a fish along the gun range stretch. The river is still high so I fished a chrome spin n glo (my fav for coho). First cast into the beaver creek run and my float dips and chrome comes flying out of the water!!! Should have seen the look on my face when I got it to shore and it turned out to be a chrome wild steelhead ... a little early for a winter run but hopefully a good sign of things to come this winter

Nice catch Kromer .. btw I love that beaver creek run, usually turns up a fish or two in the winter if you can get there before everyone else.
