The gun range and falls area will probably put you onto a few chromers as well as some older summer runs that they trucked back down from the hatchery a couple weeks ago.

The falls pool is a fricken zoo. Last weekend there was hardly any parking. Its certainly no secret Well having said that I did well on summers lower down.

The falls is a gong show, you get every so called ''steelheader'' there it's disgusting, oh well, just wait another month until these ''steelheaders'' bugger off to the comfort of their warm homes and wait for summer for the trout. Good riddens.

Does anyone know if the black rock area is good fly fishing water? Just found out about that spot yesterday.

How are the steelhead returns so far? Are there many winter fish yet?

Therer are 50 50 winter to summers right now, i've seen a lot of winter fish being caught and have caught a lot myself. Black rock is no good for the fly as of right now. The water is too high and there is a lot of overgrowth. Unless your spey fishing I wouldn't go there.

I was at the falls today, and the water is HIGH and green, and there are fish holding there and lower. I caught a nice silver winter beauty today, and another smaller one that I snagged by accident. Hard to fish the fast water, but if you get it dialed in, you will get something.
The bucket is just raging right now, the slide pool looked really hard to fish, lots of jet boats targeting the shallower water.

I watched a couple landed at the falls pool today, some good action with long periods of nothing. 6 people on both sides of the river... I saw one guy play a beauty and it was jumping at least 5 feet into the air, awesome!

Nice, what side were they getting more action? That river must have dropped at least 2 or three feet in these past couple of days

Drove down island to fish the Stamp on the 3rd we were hoping to fly fish, there was no river access above or below the falls that we could find, didn't try the falls pool. The water level was still too high although a perfect colour, maybe next week it might be more suitable. I have been trying to find the water level posted on the internet, does anybody know of any postings on a daily basis for the Stamp , Somas or Sproat.

btrout, there is major access via mackenzie rd to the gun range. Unfortunately there is no hydrometric data for the SSS system that I am aware of.

there are a few... but not with the high water. You can fly 200m above the confluence of the sproat/stamp... or lower downstream at somass park area... or in the upper at the confluence of the ash/stamp... and in lower water you can walk in from the gun range and there are a few spots upstream.

Theres not much for fly water fishtime. Its hard to find and when the river is high forget about it. Another problem is the fly water is spaced out far enough you have to drive to the next spot...walking riverbank is futile!
