Best Fishing in YEARS!
This May has brought large numbers of chinook into the Nanaimo and Gabriola areas. Local anglers are reporting the best fishing right now in years. Most boats are concentrating offshore from 'The Fingers' or a mile or two out from Thrasher rock. The fish seem to be out in the middle of the strait (not near structure) and are being caught between 100' and 160' on the downrigger. Coyote spoons such as the copcar, nightrider, nasty boy and green/glow are hot. For hootchies try a purple haze or green/glow spatterback.
Word has spread and as many as 80 boats were seen fishing at one time over the long weekend. Reports tell of a few fish hitting 30 pounds.
Happy Fishing!
