Port Alberni Inlet Currently Disappointing
Plenty of Sockeye salmon have migrated into the Somass River system but because of many factors with the spring and summer cold weather pattern being the most responsible the sport fishing for the last three weeks has been very poor. Over one million Sockeye are forecast to return to the area but most of the fish are just swimming in high water to the Somass and then Great Central and Sproat Lakes where they will sit until the fall. Hopefully the warm weather will continue and the sockeye will slow down and many Sockeye will come into the boundary where the sport sector is to have any opportunity without interference of the seine commercial fleet which may come back again. Good Luck and lets hope some of the Scokeye Sport season can be salvaged.
