Last four or Five Days Great Chinook Salmon Fishing

The Chinook Salmon returning to Robertson Creek hatchery and the Somass River have showed up in pretty good numbers over the last few days. We have done relatively well for guests who have landed on our various guide boats an average of five to eight Chinook in the first half of the day. The last couple of days has seen a early morning bite and also a bite on the tide change which has been around eight or nine o'clock. It has been a bait show one might say in the early going. The fresh fish early in the week were only interested in bait and perhaps the odd white AORL 12 hootchie. On Thursday of this week a few more fish were taking the O-15 and 16 hootchies. Cop car for some fisher people in the four inch variety has also been working. Rhys Davis anchovy teaser heads in purple haze, green haze, and chartreuse have all been working quite well. The surface temperature of the inlet water is 72 to 73 degrees farenheit and the warm water current that we presently have in Barkley Sound and the Inlet has brought in mackeral which can be a nuisance at times. Many of the fish landed over the week are from twenty to thirty pounds. The fish returning to the Somass River system are predominately five year old fish this year. Hoefully the good fishing continues through the Labor Day Weekend. To book a late trip over the next two weeks call Doug at 1 250 724 2502 or 1 250 731 7389.
