Summer Salmon Fishing in Barkley Sound Was Good Month of October has Progressively Slowed Down

We are already in mid October and the Salmon Fishing in all parts of Barkley Sound has dramatically slowed down. The summer fishing was excellent. Salmon migrating to the big river systems to the south swam into many areas of the Sound in June and July and fed on the rich resources of bait fish before continuing their long journey. In August and September West Coast Vancouver Island Chinook and Coho came into Barkley Sound in good numbers and created some fantastic world class fishing. These fish have their natal streams and rivers in close by areas. A good number of the salmon move into the Alberni Inlet before heading to the Somass River system and to Robertson Creek Hatchery. October salmon fishing slowed down. Their were a few Coho landed along the Bamfield Wall and also the Pill Point area. A couple of days in the early part of October for the few sport fishermen on the water was actually quite good. Big mid October rains are definitely picking up the salmon migration as the fish move to the spawning grounds with rising water in the various waterways. The sport salmon fishing in Barkley Sound was definitely quite good for most sport fisher people. We are looking forward to the 2018 summer salmon sport fishing opportunities.
