Alberni Inlet Summer Fishing Actually Better than Expected.

The sport fishing in the Alberni Inlet during the 2017 summer turned out better with more opportunity to fish than what was expected. Originally the return of Sockeye salmon was to be very low. Before the end of June returns through the counters had more than met the expected return. With this a limited Sockeye fishing opportunity opened on the first of July and on July 8th because of high returning numbers the sport fishing jumped to four Sockeye per day with a two day limit of eight Sockeye for sport anglers. Rather than only a very short Chinook and Coho sport fishery in the Inlet from mid August through the first week of September fishing for the full month of July definitely created a much longer sport fishing season. Returns of Chinook and Coho to date have been relatively good. With heavy rains over the last couple of days the rising water in streams and nearby creeks should provide for a very good migration.
